Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is a term first and foremost used in religion and spirituality of a long journey or search of great moral significance. Sometimes, it is a journey to a sacred place or shrine of importance to a person’s beliefs and faith. Members of every religion participate in pilgrimages. A person who makes such a journey is called a pilgrim.
The oldest known pilgrimage site is Mount Kailash in Tibet. This pilgrim is a holy travel destination for an incomprehensible 15,000 years. It is a Buddhist temple and they say the ritual circumambulation erases the sins of one lifetime, and 108 times around the mountain will enable you to reach Nirvana.

There is a Canterbury Cathedral which is dedicated to Saint Thomas. It was England's most popular pilgrimage site. This cathedral is described in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, written in the 14th century.
Machu Picchu is the South America’s most sacred place. It is a mountaintop citadel about 60 miles northwest of Cusco, Peru in South America. There are several hundred stone buildings, built on terraces and connected by a maze of stone steps and pathways. Machu Picchu is a holy and inspirational site just like other cathedral.

In Chimayó, New Mexico there is an adobe chapel where 2,000 believers congregate each Good Friday, and 300,000 pilgrims are drawn annually. At the back of the chapel there is a small room known as “Room of Miracles”. It is a hole in the floor through which people scoop out sand. The walls of the room are lined with hundreds of letters and pictures from visitors thankful for the healing they say they received.
In Arizona there is a pilgrimage destination named Sedona from prehistoric times to the present day. The area's dramatically-shaped red sandstone rocks are said to emit powerful energy partly because of their high concentration of magnetic iron. It is settled down by four sacred directions i.e. Apache, ancestors of the Hopi, Yavapai, Athabascans. It is really good to discover.
